LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Earlham College baseball team fell to Birmingham-Southern 10-2 on the opening day of competition at the NCAA Regional Tournament.
The Quakers will move to the losers bracket of the regional, and face the loser of the second game being played today.
Jeordon Kuderer had a successful day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double down the left field line.
Nathan Lancianese recorded the other RBI with a double off the left field wall, and recorded two hits on the day.
Justin Dillhoff started the game on the bump and pitched 5.2 innings. He allowed just two hits and one run through the fourth inning, and collected three strikeouts in total.
The Panthers plated a run in the bottom of the first inning with a two-out RBI single to the outfield. They were then held scoreless until a 3-run fifth inning.
Trailing 5-0 in the top of the seventh,
Easton Embry worked a lead-off walk, and later advanced to second base on a passed ball. Kuderer knocked Embry home with his outfield double and was later brought home by Lancianese.
The Quakers recorded baserunners in all but two innings, but struggled to bring the runners home.
Earlham will play in the losers bracket tomorrow at 11 am. Its opponent is still to be determined, based on the result of the second game today.
