ADA, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team split its games on Saturday of the ONU Invitational to finish the weekend 1-2 in tournament play.
The Quakers fell to 5-7 on the 2022 season.
Maria Young and
Aniyah Harrington led the offense with 24 kills each on the day.
Erin Wagner dished out a total of 75 assists on the day.
Jen Shamel led the Quaker back line with 45 digs, which put her over the 1,000 dig mark on her career with 10,14 digs in a Quaker uniform.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 0 MUSKINGUM 3 (18-25, 11-25, 20-25)
Young led the offense in match one with 10 kills and a .129 hitting percentage.
Liv Kyrk was the most efficient Quaker in the opener with a .167 average on six kills.
Errors plagued the Earlham offense who hit at a .025 clip through the match. The Quakers also struggled to contain the Muskies who hit with a .218 percentage.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 3 HEIDELBERG 2 (25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 15-8)
Harrington got a chance to shine in the second match with 18 kills and a .155 percentage. The freshman also had eight digs and a block in the match.
Two other Quakers reached double digit kills, Young scored 14 with a .179 percentage and four aces while
Jasmyn Meeker tallied 14 kills at a .167 clip.
Wagner recorded a season-high 52 assists in the second round of the day, she also collected 21 digs and had an ace. Shamel reached 1,000 career digs in match two with a team-high 33 in the match.
Sydney Fuller led the front line with five total blocks.
Earlham hit at a .149 clip as a team in the second match and held the Student Princes to .096. EC struggled offensively in set three with 11 offensive errors which brought the total down. Without the third set, the Quakers swug .194 with 23 errors.
Earlham returns to Druley Performance Gym for three consecutive matches up next. First up is DePauw University on Wednesday at 7 pm. Asbury University makes the trip north from Kentucky on Saturday for a 1 pm contest before a week-long break for the Quakers. EC returns for its final non-conference match against Albion on September 30 at home.
