Volleyball sweeps on Senior Day

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team won two straight-set matches against Bluffton and Wooster on Senior Day in Druley Performance Gym on Saturday afternoon. 

The Quakers improved to 8-17 (2-5 HCAC).

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 3  BLUFFTON 0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-22)

Caylee Brandes led the offense with 13 kills and a .444 attack percentage after committing only one error. The freshman also had one solo, and one assisted block. 

Ava Walters dished out 23 assists and scored one service ace. Lauren Newcomer led the defense with 10 digs. Gabby Gerardi recorded four block assists and one solo block. 

As a team, the Quakers scored 37 digs with a .218 attack percentage. 

Earlham took a 6-3 lead early in set one. Liv Kyrk made an appearance on Senior Day to serve for the Quakers after being sidelined against Anderson. Leading 13-10, Earlham scored an 11-3 run to lead 24-13. 

After the Beavers jumped out to a 17-6 lead in set two, Earlham scored a 10-2 run to close the gap to just three points. Bluffton scored three straight points, and the Quakers responded with a 10-2 run to win the frame. 

Despite a 13-6 lead for EC in the third frame, Bluffton tied the game at 20 off of a kill. The Quakers then went on a 5-2 run to end the match. 


GAME TWO: EARLHAM 3  WOOSTER 0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17)

Anniyah Harrington scored 11 kills in the match and had an attack percentage of .286 with three service aces. Sydney Bleyle dished out 20 assists, and Newcomer collected 12 digs with four aces. 

With the game tied at 11, the Quakers scored a 10-2 run to take control of the set. 

Earlham attacked at a .325 clip in the third set and scored 16 kills. 

Earlham took a 13-7 lead early in the third set before a 9-2 run the by Scots. Earlham responded with a 10-1 run to end the day. 

The Quakers honored three individuals prior to action in the tri-match for Senior Day. Young, Kyrk, and Cal Pringle were recognized for their contributions to the program prior to the first game. 

Earlham will be back in action on Wednesday evening in Druley Performance Gym against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
