Men's basketball set to begin 2023-24 season

RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's basketball team is set to begin its 2023-24 campaign at Otterbein University on Wednesday evening. 

THE SCHEDULE

The season begins on Wednesday at Otterbein University at 7 pm. The Quakers then host the Melissa Johnson/Hope Classic over the weekend with seven teams scheduled to compete in Druley Performance Gym across both men's and women's competition. Earlham hosts Wilmington and Wabash before Thanksgiving. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference slate begins on December 2 with Hanover College at 1 pm, the Quakers also host Anderson on December 6 at 7:30. The last home game of the calendar year is against Case Western Reserve on December 17 at 2 pm. HCAC competition returns to campus on January 3 with Transylvania University. Earlham then competes every Wednesday and Saturday against HCAC schools until the final week of the regular season. The final home game of the season is scheduled for February 13 against Rose-Hulman, and the Quakers will close out the season on the road at Transylvania on February 16.

THE PLAYERS

Four Quakers were designated by the HCAC as "Players to Watch" for the upcoming season:
Joffrey Nunally saw action in 24 games with seven starts as a freshman last season. He averaged 19.2 minutes per game, and scored 155 points with a .491 field goal percentage. Defensively, he added 22 steals and one block. 
Mike Williams played in 11 games and garnered six starts last season. The 6'10" senior collected 21 rebounds and scored 20 points in his first year with the Quakers.
Loki Anda did not see action for the Quakers last season, but averaged 8.94 points and 5.06 rebounds per game in his two seasons at Thomas University.

PRESEASON POLL

Earlham was picked eighth in the HCAC Preseason poll by head coaches. The Quakers earned 23 votes. Anderson University was picked to win the league with 80 total votes, five of them for first place. Manchester, Hanover, and Transylvania all earned first-place nods. 

THE COACHES

Head coach Joe Scheuers remains on the sideline to lead the Quakers in his fifth season. Once again, Deshon Gaither will be in Druley Performance Gym as assistant men's basketball coach.
