NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team was eliminated from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 loss to Manchester University.
Caylee Brandes led the offense with nine kills and a .222 attack percentage. The freshman also contributed two aces.
Ava Walters dished out 22 assists, and
Madison Bizjak led the back line with 14 digs.
Maria Young scored eight kills, and put up five blocks.
As a team, Earlham scored 30 kills with a .112 hitting percentage.
The Spartans took a 7-2 lead in the opening set, before four straight points from Earlham. The Quakers trailed 11-9, and scored a 5-0 run. With the Spartans leading 23-20, Earlham scored four straight points to lead 24-23, but Mancheser rebounded to win off of a 3-0 run.
With Manchester leading 15-11, the Quakers scored a 4-0 run, Manchester then responded with a 4-0 run as well. Trailing 23-17, Earlham scored a 6-1 run before the Spartans ended the frame on a kill.
Manchester started the third set with a 14-2 lead. After an 8-3 run later in the set, the Spartans led 23-11. Earlham then scored an 11-1 run to trail 24-22. Manchester scored the winning point on a service error.
The Quakers end their season with a 10-18 (4-5 HCAC) record, the Quakers qualified for their fifth HCAC Tournament in the past six seasons.
