FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Earlham College men's basketball team fell just short of victory with an 80-75 final score at Franklin College on Saturday.
Ken Walker etched a career-high with 33 points and three assists on the day. The freshman went 13-for-17 on field goals, and 6-for-8 on 3-pointers.
Jordan Stolle also had a career day with 17 points and six rebounds.
Mike Williams led the Quakers with seven boards.
Walker scored the first seven points of the game for EC, and gave the visitors a 7-3 lead after taking a steal back for a dunk. The teams then traded points until a 9-3 run by the Quakers gave them a 30-23 lead with 4:36 remaining in the half.
Walker hit a 3-pointer to kick off the second half of play, but the Grizzlies responded with a 12-0 run to retake the lead. Leading 56-53, Franklin scored a 7-0 run with just over six minutes remaining in the game.
Starting with just over three minutes remaining, Walker kicked off an 8-0 run on a 3-point play. Trailing 73-68 heading into the final minute of play,
Bobby Wonnell cut the lead with a jumper. Franklin responded with a quick layup before Stolle hit a jumper from the right side.
With 26 seconds remaining, Franklin missed the first of a one-and-one free throw, but the Quakers could not convert points on the possession. The Grizzlies then made both free throws, followed by a stolen layup on the in-bound to lead 79-72 with 12 seconds left. Stolle hit another 3-pointer with eight seconds left, and the Grizzlies scored their final point on a free throw.
The Quakers shot 54% as a team, and had a 45% 3-point percentage. 20 points came off of turnovers, including 14 fast-break points.
The Quakers will take on Case Western Reserve University next Sunday in Druley Performance Gym at 2 pm.
