RICHMOND – The Earlham College baseball team returned to action in Indiana with a 15-2 win over Principia College in seven innings in Sadler Stadium Tuesday evening.
The Quakers improved to 10-4 on the season.
Nate Hemmerich was awarded the win with 1.2 innings pitched.
Hans Carter got the start on the mound with 3.1innings pitched and one run with three strikeouts.
Matt Morris and
Jacob Renner both recorded an inning in relief, with Renner tallying two strikeouts.
Max Fries led the offense with five RBI on three hits as the designated hitter, including a three-run double in the fourth inning. Fries had two doubles on the day.
Nathan Lancianese went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a triple.
Reece Zonts hit his first career home run over the center-field fence in the sixth inning.
Batting in the leadoff spot,
Zach Swearingen scored in the first inning on a balk. The Quakers led 4-0 before Principia notched its first run in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the frame, Earlham put up five runs aided by the double from Fries.
The Quakers will be back in action on Friday for the beginning of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play against Manchester University in Sadler Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 pm on Friday, and noon for the doubleheader on Saturday.
