RICHMOND – The Earlham College baseball team split its weekend series with Illinois Institute of Technology after going 1-1 on Sunday afternoon against the Scarlet Hawks.
GAME ONE: Earlham 4 Illinois 7
Cason Bennett started on the mound in game one and tossed seven innings. The freshman allowed just five hits for three runs and recorded five strikeouts.
Carter Vilevac led the Quakers in game one with two RBI after a home run to right field in the seventh inning.
Michael Medley recorded two hits and one RBI.
GAME TWO: Earlham 5 Illinois 3
Nick Carrizales started game two and threw seven innings with five hits for two runs. The graduate student scored four strikeouts.
Nate Hemmerich earned the win with the final two innings in relief with one run and one strikeout.
Reece Zonts had a multi-hit performance with two knocks.
The Quakers trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, before a three-run outing. Medley hit a single to right field to bring pinch runner
Jonathan Jimenez home for the first score of the frame. Then
Nate Whetstine put a ball in play to first base, where an error brought two runs home on the play.
The Quakers will be back in action next weekend for the Quaker Bowl series against Wilmington College in Sadler Stadium. The first game is set for 5 pm on Friday evening.
