RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team split a doubleheader with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Sadler Stadium.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 7 ROSE-HULMAN 3
Justin Dillhoff earned the win after starting the game and going 6.2 innings on the mound. Dillhoff scattered nine hits for one earned run, and recorded five strikeouts.
Dawson Hope threw 2.1 innings in relief, and earned a save for his efforts.
Batting leadoff,
Mac Moore had two RBI on two hits, including a double. Christian and
Nathan Lancianese combined for five hits, two RBI, and three runs scored in game one.
The Quakers allowed a run by the Engineers in the top of the first inning on a throwing error at first.
Moore started the rally in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI double to left field.
Christian Lancianese then brought Moore home on an outfield single in the next at bat.
Nathan Lancianese also got in on the action with an RBI single to bring his brother in for the score.
Earlham added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single by
Mitchell Roether to center field.
Rose-Hulman got back on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning after hitting an RBI single to left field.
Moore recorded another RBI-hit in the bottom of the sixth, and
Max Fries rounded out the EC scoring with a two-RBI triple in the rain in the bottom of the eighth inning.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 9 Rose-Hulman 16
Jacob Renner started on the mound for game two and threw 2.2 innings with six hits allowed and three strikeouts. The Quakers rotated through a total of 10 pitchers on the day.
Nathan Lancianese led the Quakers in game two, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
Michael Medley had three hits in the game with two doubles and one RBI.
The Engineers hit a triple in the first inning to start the scoring, they added another run on a ground ball later in the frame.
The visitors then added one run each in the second and third innings.
Earlham got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning after a double from
Mitchell Roether brought in
Nathan Lancianese. Fries came home on the next at bat after an error by the Engineer shortstop. Continuing the hit streak, Medley knocked an RBI double down the right field line. The final run of the inning came off a sacrifice fly by
Easton Embry.
Rose-Hulman retook the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth inning, and they plated three more runs in the sixth inning.
After two quick outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Moore began a five-run inning with an RBI single to left field. After a Rose-Hulman pitching change,
Nathan Lancianese brought in two runs on a single through the left side. Fries continued the streak with a two-RBI single to deep right field to tie the game at nine.
After retaking the lead in the top of the seventh inning, Rose-Hulman scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning.
The Quakers will be back in action with another four-game weekend next week. Earlham will host Franklin College in Sadler Stadium on Saturday with first pitch at 1 pm. The Quakers then travel to Transylvania on Sunday.
