CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Earlham College men's lacrosse team began its 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a 16-12 loss at Mount St. Joseph University on Thursday evening.
The contest was delayed from Wednesday due to inclement weather.
The Quakers fell to 3-6 on the season, with an 0-1 mark in the conference.
Sam Sargent had two goals on the evening, and led the squad in assists with three.
Ryan Polack,
Brady Shaw, and
Elijah Gamber also netted two goals in the contest.
Donovan Shea led EC in ground balls with seven, and won nine faceoffs.
Emmitt Shaughnessy collected 14 saves in the loss.
The Lions jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three minutes remaining in the first quarter, and after Earlham hit the goal in the second frame, MSJ led 10-3 at halftime. Earlham outscored the home squad 6-3 in the third quarter comeback effort.
The Quakers were outshot 48-31 on the evening, and trailed in ground balls 37-30.
The Quakers will be back in action on Saturday for another HCLC matchup at Hanover College, scheduled for 12 pm at the Panthers.
