Baseball concludes season at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Earlham College baseball team concluded its 2023 season with a series loss at Transylvania University on Sunday afternoon. 

Justin Dillhoff went a complete eight innings in game one with four hits and two earned runs allowed. The junior recorded two strikeouts and one walk in the 101-pitch outing. Nate Hemmerich started game two with four innings pitched and six hits with three strikeouts. 

Nathan Lancianese led the Quakers at the plate, going six-for-nine with two RBI from a home run in the fourth inning of game two. Lancianese also recorded a double and two stolen bases on the day. 

Max Stewart also had two hits, with a two-RBI single in the first inning of game one. 

GAME ONE: Earlham 0  Transylvania 2

Dillhoff allowed just one baserunner on a HBP through five innings of play in the opening contest before the Pioneers scored a home run in the sixth inning. Dillhoff allowed just two hits in the remaining two innings, and one run in the eighth. 

GAME TWO: Earlham 4  Transylvania 5

Stewart put the Quakers on top in the opening frame of game two with a single to right field that brought two runs home. The Pioneers plated one run in the bottom of the first after a leadoff single.

The teams then traded two-run homers in the bottom of the third and the top of the fourth inning for an EC lead of 4-3. Both teams were then held clean until Transylvania scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Pioneers then capped off scoring with an RBI double. 

The Quakers conclude their season with a 20-18 record and a 10-12 mark in the HCAC. EC finishes the season in seventh place in the conference standings, just shy of making the conference tournament.
