RICHMOND – The Earlham College cross country team is set to begin its 2023 season on Friday at the Rose-Hulman Opener. 

THE SCHEDULE 

After Rose-Hulman, the Quakers travel to Hanover College for the Hanover Invitational on September 9. EC then makes out-of-state trips to Calvin and Wilmington before the HCAC Championship on October 28. The schedule rounds out with the Great Lakes Regional at John Carroll University. 

THE PLAYERS

Two returning Quakers were selected as "Athletes to Watch" by the HCAC heading into the season. Connor Del Carmen set personal-bests in the 5k and 6k races last season with marks of 16:16.3 and 19:37.8 respectively. The junior was named Newcomer of the Year by the HCAC in 2021. Lily Schamel leads the returners on the women's side with a best 5k time last season of 21:28.3. 

PRESEASON POLL

On the men's side, the Quakers were picked to finish eighth in the HCAC preseason poll with 27 votes from member schools. The women's squad was selected to finish ninth in the standings with 21 votes. Rose-Hulman was picked to win the men's championship, while Hanover was selected first for the women. 

THE COACHES

Shane Mills returns for his second season as head cross country coach for the Quakers in 2023. He is once again joined by Richard Annorat, and Andrew Johnson from last season.
