RICHMOND – The Earlham College field hockey team started its season off with a 2-1 win over Concordia Wisconsin in Darrell Beane Stadium on Saturday morning.
Meredith McGraw got open on a penalty corner play midway through the second quarter for the first Quaker score. Earlham carried a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Falcons leveled the score in the 41st minute of play with a rebound shot on a penalty corner play.
Locked at one with 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter,
Sydney Schmitt collected a rebounded save and scored the game-winner for Earlham. It was the junior's sixth goal of her career, and her second game-winner.
The Quakers were outshot 12-6 on the day. Freshman
Piper Brill led the team in shooting with three shots, and two on goal.
Rachel Alma collected five saves in the cage.
The Quakers will continue action tomorrow at 11 am against Marian University in Darrell Beane Stadium.
