BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Earlham College women's basketball team scored a conference win over Bluffton University 63-55 on Wednesday evening.
The Quakers improved to 4-10 (2-7 HCAC) while the Beavers fell to 5-11 (3-6 HCAC).
Jay Bright led the offense with 13 points and four rebounds.
Abby Parsons scored 10 points and brought in one board. As a team, the Quakers were 49% on field goals, and scored 30 points from bench players.
Both teams came out shooting, and the Beavers tied the score at 6-6 just under 2:30 into the game. Three minutes later,
Bailey Gibson began a 10-4 run with a layup. Bluffton then scored six straight points to tie the game at 16, and Bright ended the frame with a layup to give EC an 18-16 lead.
Earlham took a 22-18 lead in the second quarter before a 6-0 run by the Beavers. Bluffton scored another 6-0 run later in the quarter to lead 32-30 at halftime.
After scoring a layup at the 7:18 mark of the third quarter to cap off a 6-1 run, Bluffton held its largest lead of the contest. The Quakers then rallied with a 10-0 run to retake the lead, and held a 49-47 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Earlham began the final frame with six straight points.Bright gave the Quakers a 59-53 lead with a layup at the 1:08 mark, and the Quakers made all their free throws in the final minute of play. The Earlham defense did not surrender a point in the final three minutes of play.
Earlham will continue its season on Saturday at Hanover College. Tip-off is slated for 3 pm, as the women follow the men's contest.
