DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Earlham College women's basketball team took an 80-63 victory over Defiance College in HCAC action on Wednesday evening.
Freshman
Abby Parsons led the way with a career-high 27 points, and five rebounds. Parsons also collected one steal and one block.
Willow Runyon also brought down five boards, and scored 12 points.
Jay Bright led the team in rebounding with eight, and scored 11 points with three steals and six assists.
After taking the lead in the opening minute, the Quakers led all but two minutes of the contest.
Jaylee Hubble gave the Quakers a 13-6 lead with a 3-pointer at the 4:31 mark of the first quarter to cap off a 6-0 run. Trailing 18-10 with 90 seconds left in the opening frame, Defiance scored a 4-1 run to end the quarter.
Earlham began the second quarter with a 5-1 run. Defiance hit a pair of 3-pointers on a 10-0 run to briefly hold the lead in the second quarter. The Quakers scored six straight to end the half.
With 5:25 remaining in the third quarter, the Quakers took a 51-40 lead after a 3-pointer from Parsons. Earlham began the final quarter with a 17-3 run to cement the lead. The Quakers led 76-56 with 2:27 remaining with a 3-pointer from Parsons.
Earlham will be back in action on Saturday to kick off a doubleheader with Mount St. Joseph University. The women will tip-off at 1 pm.
