NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team dropped a five-set match at Manchester University on Friday evening.
Skyler Murray led the offense with 12 kills and a .273 hitting percentage.
Caylee Brandes also hit 12 kills and had four blocks.
Sydney Bleyle dished out 26 assists and hit two service aces.
Ava Walters recorded 17 assists and had one ace.
Lauren Newcomer led the Quaker back line with 23 digs. As a team, the Quakers had a .158 hitting percentage with just 4.4 errors per set.
Earlham took the win in set one 27-25 after committing just four errors for an entire set. Manchester led 14-9 at one point, and had a 23-19 lead before an 8-02 run by Earlham to win the set.
Trailing 13-6 in set two, Earlham scored a 7-2 run. After reaching set point, Manchester allowed six straight points from the Quakers before finally taking the set 25-22.
Manchester dominated the early part of set three, leading 18-6 over the visitors, and taking a 25-14 win in the frame.
Earlham responded with an 11-6 lead in set four. The Quakers scored 17 kills in the set to extend the match.
In the final frame, The Spartans hit .231 with 10 kills. Earlham led 4-0, but Manchester scored a seven-point run to lead 13-10. The Quakers scored three straight, but the hosts responded with a pair of points to win the match.
Earlham is set to host Hanover College next Friday in Druley Performance Gym. The match is scheduled for 7 pm.
