RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball team took a win in its home-opener against Kuyper College 64-34 on Saturday afternoon in Druley Performance Gym
Jay Bright led the Quakers with a team-high 13 points. Bright also led the team in steals with two, and went 2-for-2 on 3-pointers.
Berkley Shelton scored 10 points for the third straight game, and collected a team-high nine rebounds. 33 of Earlham's points came from non-starters, including nine from
Kaibre Stephan and
Lovie Malone, and six each from
Tatum McFarland and
Jaylee Hubble.
The Quakers asserted a lead in the opening five minutes, taking a 13-0 lead at the 5:30 mark. Earlham led 21-7 at the end of the first frame. Kuyper had its best showing in the second quarter, which included a 7-0 run and a 30% mark on field goals.
The Quaker defense held the Cougars to under 10 points in each of the last two quarters. A 3-pointer by Bright gave the Quakers a 20-point lead early in the third. Earlham scored a four-minute 11-0 run in the fourth quarter.
The Quakers will host Heidelberg Universuty on Wednesday evening at 6 pm in Druley Performance Gym. Then the men's and women's basketball team will host the Melissa Johnson/HOPE Classic starting on Friday in Druley.
