LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Earlham College volleyball team was eliminated from the HCAC Tournament with a 3-1 loss to Transylvania University in the semifinals.
Caylee Brandes scored a team-high 11 kills with four blocks.
Liv Kyrk scored 10 kills with a .400 attack percentage and three blocks.
Ava Walters tallied 18 assists and one ace while
Sydney Bleyle dished out 14 assists with three aces.
Madison Bizjak collected 14 digs to lead the back line and
Addison Piatt recorded 13 digs and one block.
Trailing 16-10 after a 6-0 start from the Pioneers, Earlham scored a 6-1 run to trail by just one point. The regular-season HCAC champs rescinded with a 6-0 run to end the match, which included two kills and two blocks.
The Pioneers began set two with an 8-1 lead before the Quakers regrouped with an 8-1 run. Leading 14-11, Transylvania scored seven straight points for a 21-11 lead, and closed out the set 25-15.
Earlham attacked at a .452 clip in set three, scoring 14 kills with no errors in its only set win. The Quakers opened with a 6-3 lead, and scored a 9-1 run to lead 20-12. Earlham also scored a 4-1 run to win the set, with two kills, an ace and a block.
The Pioneers scored five straight to lead 8-3 in the fourth frame, and scored a 7-0 run to lead 21-11 before closing out the match with a 4-1 run.
The Quakers finish the season with a 13-14 record, and a fifth trip to the HCAC semifinals in the last seven years.
