Ball scores on field hockey senior day

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College field hockey team fell 4-1 in the season finale against Kenyon College in Darrell Beane Stadium on Saturday.

Prior to the start, Earlham honored its seniors for their contributions to the program in recent years. Jalyn Kelsey, Rorey Murphy, Sydney Schmitt, Meredith McGraw, and Niloy Barua were honored for their time with the Quakers.

Alex Ball scored the first goal of the game to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Alice Bucenec carried the ball down the right side of the Kenyon defense, and unloaded a shot from the edge of the arc that was deflected by a defender. Ball then retrieved the rebound, and took a one-time shot to the far side for a score.

The Owls responded in the 24th minute with their first goal of the contest on a deflected shot on a penalty corner.

The visitors scored twice in the third frame, and capped the day off with a goal in the 48th minute.

Earlham was outshot 12-3, Beatrice Meeks led the attack with two shots.

Earlham finishes its season with a 1-9 record in NCAC action, and a 10th-place finish in the conference standings.
