HANOVER, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team split a conference doubleheader at Hanover College on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 1 HANOVER 4
Tatum Rickert tossed a complete six innings in game one with just five hits and four earned runs. The freshman recorded three strikeouts.
As a team, the Quakers recorded five hits with an RBI double by
Bo Shelton in the sixth inning. Shelton had the only extra-base hit for Earlham in the game.
The Panthers plated a run in the bottom of the first inning after a leadoff walk followed by a double. Hanover then added three more scores in the bottom of the fifth inning with three extra-base hits and an error.
Bella Schatko hit a one-out single in the top of the sixth inning, and was brought home on the next play by Shelton's double.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 6 HANOVER 3
Morgan Cooksey threw her ninth complete game of the season with seven innings, seven hits and three earned runs. Cooksey also recorded eight strikeouts, and an RBI on offense.
Ashley Lewis went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a stolen base, a run scored and three RBI. Shelton scored two hits with an RBI.
Keely Hubbard went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Hanover scored twice in the bottom of the first inning with a trio of doubles. The final run of the day for the Panthers came in the bottom of the third inning on a solo homer.
In the top of the sixth inning,
Emmerie Stump led off with a double to center field. Hubbard earned a walk, and
Ariel Clarkston hit a single to load the bases. Lewis then hit a double to right field to bring two runs home. Schatko reached first on an error, and Shelton earned an RBI on a walk.
Faith Butler brought another run home on an RBI-groundout, and Cooksey put a ball in play to score the fifth run of the frame. 10 batters saw a plate appearance in the inning for Earlham.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth inning, Lewis hit a grounder to the shortstop for an RBI on a fielder's choice.
The Quakers will continue HCAC play on Monday at Defiance College. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3 pm.
