Softball swept by Lions

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team dropped a doubleheader against Mount St. Joseph University on Thursday evening in Ellie Bewley Stadium. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 3 MSJ 5

Tatum Rickert threw a complete game in game one with five earned runs and one strikeout. 

Keely Hubbard went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. The third baseman also scored one run. 

After trailing 1-0 in the first inning, Hubbard sent a one-out double down the left field line for two runs. The Lions then went on to score four runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. 

Nikki Alston hit an RBI-single down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring Hubbard home. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 5 MSJ 6

Morgan Cooksey threw a complete seven innings with eight hits and one strikeout. 

Bella Schatko went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Emmerie Stump recorded an RBI and a double. Faith Butler went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. 

The Lions took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, and the Quakers responded with an RBI-single with the bases loaded by Butler in the bottom of the third. 

Tied up at one, Cooksey got the scoring started in the Earlham fifth inning with an outfield single to bring Ashley Lewis home to score. Ariel Clarkston hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Butler to come home. Pinch running, Kymara Kennedy scored on a double by Stump. 

Mount St. Joseph responded with five runs on four hits and two errors in the top of the sixth inning. 

Earlham plated a run on a Bo Shelton triple in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

The Quakers will conclude the regular season on Saturday at Anderson University with a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
