TIFFIN, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team fell to Heidelberg University in four sets on Tuesday evening.
Skyler Murray and
Caylee Brandes both totalled 11 kills on the evening.
Addison Piatt scored nine kills, and had a team-high .231.
Ava Walters dished out a team-high 22 assists while
Sydney Bleyle recorded 18 assists and three aces.
Madison Bizjak led the back line with 25 digs.
The Quakers scored nine kills in the opening frame of action, and fell behind after a 10-2 run by the Student Princes.
A 5-0 run boosted Earlham to a 9-4 lead in the second frame. The Quakers weathered a late surge by the hosts, and went on a three-point run while leading 22-17 for the set win.
In the longest set of the evening, Earlham tallied 17 kills with a .140 attack percentage. Earlham opened with a 7-2 lead, but the Student Princes scored five straight to tie the set at nine. Trailing 22-15, Earlham scored seven-straight points for a 22-22 score. Piatt kept the Quakers alive with a kill while trailing 24-23. Earlham dropped the final point on an attack error for a 30-28 score.
The Quakers struggled offensively in the final frame, hitting nine errors to 10 kills. Trailing 14-11, Heidelberg scored a 12-2 run to take a 23-16 lead. Earlham responded with a 5-0 run, but could not catch the Student Princes in the set.
Earlham continues play next Tuesday at home against Indiana University East in Druley Performance Gym. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
