RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team split a tri-match against Manchester and Albion on Saturday in Druley Performance Gym.
MATCH ONE: EARLHAM 3 MANCHESTER 2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-9)
Addison Piatt led the Quaker offense with 17 kills, two aces, one block, 17 digs and a .240 hitting percentage. Anniyah Harrington scored 14 kills with 19 digs, one block and a .233 hitting percentage.
Caylee Brandes swung .313 with 13 kills and three blocks, while
Gabby Gerardi put up five blocks with 10 kills.
Ava Walters tallied a team-high 30 assists, and
Madison Bizjak led the back line with 26 digs.
As a team, the Quakers hit 60 kills with a .210 hitting percentage.
After Manchester tied the match at two sets wins each, Earlham went on a 6-3 run to begin the fifth set. The Quakers swung .625 with 10 kills and no hitting errors in the final frame.
MATCH TWO: EARLHAM 2 ALBION 3 (20-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 16-14)
The Quakers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, controlling play in the opening two frames before a surge from the Britons.
Piatt scored 17 kills with a .260 hitting percentage, two aces and 18 digs. Harrington tallied 16 kills, two aces, four blocks and 15 digs.
Brandes hit .205 with 15 kills and one block. Bizjak led the back row with 28 digs. Walters led the setters with 31 assists, and
Sydney Bleyle tallied 22.
Tied at 12 in the fifth set, Earlham scored two straight to get on set and match point, but the Britons rallied four straight points to take the 16-14 set win, and give Earlham its first home loss of the season.
Earlham is slated to travel to Franklin College on Wednesday for a 7 pm match at the Grizzlies.
