RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team battled Ohio Wesleyan University with a 3-2 win in Druley Performance Gym on Tuesday evening.
Caylee Brandes led the offense with 18 kills, three blocks, and a .209 hitting percentage. Anniyah Harrington and
Addison Piatt both scored 16 kills, and collected 17 and 15 digs respectively.
Ava Walters matched her season high with 33 assists, while
Sydney Bleyle recorded 18.
Madison Bizjak led the back row with 28 digs, and served up four aces.
Earlham took set one 25-21 after scoring 16 total kills with a .211 attack percentage. Leading 19-14 in set two, Earlham allowed the Bishops to close back in with four attack errors, and Ohio Wesleyan took the set win off of an 8-2 run.
The Quakers led 16-10 in set three, and posted a .361 team hitting percentage with just four total errors in the frame. The Quakers also jumped out to an early lead in set four with a 16-12 score, but Ohio Wesleyan fought back with a 10-3 win to lead 22-19. Trailing 24-20, the Quakers put up three points in a row, but fell 25-23.
Four straight points led to an 11-6 Quaker lead in set five before the Bishops went on an 8-1 run to sit on match point at 14-12. The Quakers then locked in with four straight points, including a kill by Piatt and a block from Brandes and
Gabby Gerardi to end the match.
The Quakers host Transylvania University on Saturday as part of Homecoming weekend. First serve is scheduled for 2 pm in Druley Performance Gym.
