Davis scores 20 in Mutchner Cup loss

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Earlham College men's basketball team came up just short in the John Mutchner Cup, taking a 79-71 loss at Rose-Hulman on Wednesday evening. 

The matchup honors John Mutchner, a former basketball coach and athletics director who is in the Hall of Fame at both schools. 

Bud Davis led the Quakers with 20 points on the day, the freshman also tallied three steals, three assists and three rebounds. Tommy Reddick scored 18 points with three blocks and one steal. Connor Smith led EC with eight boards and eight points. 

Reddick put the Quakers up 13-6 after hitting a 3-pointer with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. The Quakers went on to lead 17-13 before the Engineers rallied and took the lead 23-21 with six minutes in the half. 

The Quakers scored a 13-3 run to take the lead with just under seven minutes remaining. The Engineers then outscored the Quakers 17-6 in the final seven minutes, including going 5-for-5 on free throws in the final three minutes. 

Earlham is set to continue play at Kenyon University on Saturday at 2 pm.
