RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's basketball team suffered an overtime loss to Manchester University 93-84 on Saturday afternoon in Druley Performance Gym.
Ken Walker led the Quakers with 22 points and seven assists, while
Landen Hale scored 21 points with a career-high 16 rebounds. Hale cleared 20 points for just the second time in his young career.
Tavian Tatum scored double digits with 14 points and six boards.
A 3-pointer gave the Spartans a 13-9 lead for the first momentum-grab of the game,
Travis Makabu then tied the score with a three with 11:07 remaining in the half. Tied at 29 with just under four minutes remaining, the Quakers scored a 13-6 run to end the frame with a 42-35 lead. Quaker freshman
Tommy Reddick hit a pull-up 3-pointer as time expired, which was confirmed by replay review.
Elijah Zahm gave Earlham a double digit lead with 14 minutes remaining in regulation after a put-back layup. The Quakers led by as many as 14 points in the second half. With 9:40 remaining, Manchester began a 14-2 run to retake the lead with a 3-pointer at the 4:24 mark. Trailing 78-76, Walker converted on a layup with 21 seconds left, and the Quakers held strong on defense for the final possession of regulation.
Earlham was held scoreless while the Spartans went up 86-78 in the first 2:30 of overtime. Reddick brought the score to 88-84 with 57 seconds remaining, but the Quakers were then shutout, while Manchester went 5-6 on free throws to end the game.
Earlham will conclude its season on Wednesday night at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
