RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team swept Wilmington College in the Quaker Bowl Rivalry Game on Wednesday afternoon in Ellie Bewley Stadium.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 3 WILMINGTON 2
Tatum Rickert threw the opening three innings of game one, with one earned run off of three hits and one strikeout.
Kamdyn DePew earned her first collegiate win with four innings pitched in relief. The freshman allowed one earned run, and struck out two.
Shelby Hill went 2-3 with a double, a home run, two RBI, a walk, and one run scored.
Ashley Lewis earned three hits as the leadoff batter, including a double and a triple, and scored two runs.
Lewis led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple into the right field gap, and later scored to give Earlham a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch by Wilmington.
Wilmington tied the score in the top of the second inning, with three hits in the frame, and an RBI double. Wilmington took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after a leadoff double, and an RBI-single.
Trailing 2-1, Hill blasted a ball over the Maroon Monster in left field for a solo homer to tie the game.
DePew scored a pair of strikeouts in the top of the seventh to hold Wilmington, as the Quakers went to work in the bottom of the final inning. Lewis hit a one-out double to right field, and advanced on a single by
Bella Schatko. Wilmington made a pitching change, and gave
Keely Hubbard a free pass to load the bases. With one out and the bases loaded, Hill earned a walk off walk for the game-one win.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 3 WILMINGTON 0
Morgan Cooksey started in the circle, and went three innings for the win.
Shelby Messer earned her first career save with four innings pitched and one strikeout.
Caitlyn Brooks went 2-3 with two doubles, one run scored, and one RBI.
Macie Ferguson led off the bottom of the first inning with an outfield single, and went from first to home on a double by Brooks. Brooks was back to work in the sixth inning, starting the frame with a leadoff double. Earlham then had four straight hits, with an RBI-single by
Bo Shelton to right field.
Mackenzie Harvey added the final run on a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Quakers continue play on Saturday with an HCAC doubleheader against Franklin College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm in Ellie Bewley Stadium.
