Softball sweeps Berea

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team swept Berea College in HCAC action on Wednesday afternoon. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 13 BEREA 2 (5 Innings)

Tatum Rickert threw a complete game to begin the day with five hits, no earned runs, and four strikeouts. 

Offensively, Bo Shelton went 3-3 with a double, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Keely Hubbard had two hits with three runs scored. 

The Mountaineers scored two unearned runs in the first inning after two hits and two errors by the Quaker defense. Earlham responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first, including back-to-back extra-base hits by Shelton and Mackenzie Harvey

Leading 4-2 in the second, Shelton hit a two-run double to left field with two outs. 

11 Quakers came to the plate in the fourth inning, which saw seven runs on four hits. With a 13-2 lead, Rickert scored three straight outs in the top of the fifth inning. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 14 BEREA 1

Morgan Cooksey threw a complete five innings with one earned run on two hits and seven strikeouts. 

Shelby Hill went 2-2 with a home run, four RBI, and one run scored. Tiffany Sowder went 2-3 with two doubles and one run scored. 

Earlham sent 16 batters up to the plate in the first inning, plating 10 runs on eight hits and three errors. Earlham launched two extra-base hits, including a deep ball by Hill. 

Sowder hit a one-out double in the bottom of the second inning, and Berea put five straight Quakers on base for free. Earlham plated three runs with just one hit in the frame. 

The Quakers continue conference play on Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. First pitch in the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm.
