TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team split an HCAC doubleheader at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 2 RHIT 1
Tatum Rickert scored her ninth win of the season with a complete game, allowing one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts.
The Engineers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo homer to center field.
Emmerie Stump got the Quakers on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a solo shot to right field.
In the top of the seventh inning,
Malaya Tanglao earned a leadoff walk, and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by
Faith Butler. Freshman utility player Mikayla Newland then came in as a pinch runner, and advanced to third on a single by
Alana Smith.
Ashley Lewis then delivered an RBI-double for the go-ahead run to center field.
Leading 2-1, Rickert threw a perfect seventh inning for a Quaker win in game one.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 0 RHIT 4
Morgan Cooksey started game two in the circle, and threw 4.1 innings with three earned runs and three strikeouts.
Shelby Messer scored one strikeout in 1.2 innings, allowing just one baserunner on a walk.
Stump and
Mackenzie Harvey both recorded doubles on the day, as the Quakers recorded four hits as a team. Six Quakers came to the plate as pinch hitters in the contest.
Rose-Hulman scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning with three hits and two errors in the frame.
The Quakers travel to Cincinnati on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader at Mount St. Joseph University. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.
