RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team split a doubleheader with Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in Sadler Stadium.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 7 OWU 1
Kyle Jeffries threw six innings in a series-clinching win in game one. The junior allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
Casey Blevins earned his first career save with three innings pitched out of the bullpen. The sophomore allowed just two baserunners with one strikeout.
Ian Bullis went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Sean Jeffries went 2-for-4 with two steals, two runs scored, one RBI and a triple.
Chris Barnett walked twice, and stole three bases.
After a scoreless three innings to open the game,
Jackson McFarland launched his second homer of the season to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Quakers then tacked on three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning after a leadoff single by Jeffries.
Noah Wagster hit a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh, and stole second before an RBI triple by Jeffries.
Mitchell Roether then picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Austin Dick scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch in the eighth.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 4 OWU 7
Axel Kappes got his first career start in game two, and threw 2.1 innings with two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
Braeden Lewis tossed three innings with two strikeouts, and
Hayden Scalf tallied four strikeouts in the final two innings.
The Bishops scored two runs on one hit in the top of the second inning, and added three runs on two hits in the top of the third inning.
Trailing 5-0, Roether hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning.
Dylan Rieck led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a walk, and the Quakers loaded the bases with a single by
Noah Wagster. Jeffries then hit a sacrifice fly to center field for a 5-3 Quaker deficit. Ohio Wesleyan then followed up with two runs on three hits in the top of the seventh.
Wagster brought in the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Quakers have a week off before taking a Spring Break trip to Fort Pierce, Fla. The Quakers will play five games in five days starting with Washington College on Sunday at 10 am.
