RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's basketball team continued its strong week with a 62-59 loss to Mount St. Joseph University on Senior Day.
Bud Davis led the Quakers after shooting 7-for-8 on field goals with 16 points, four assists and two steals.
Donovan Pruitt scored 11 points with two assists and one block.
Patrick Hardimon reached double digits with 10 points.
Noah Gathings and
Connor Smith led the Quakers with five rebounds each.
Prior to tip-off,
Marcos Paul,
Travis Makabu and
Grady Smitley were honored for their contributions to the program for Senior Day. The trio also started the contest, and helped lead Earlham to a 14-4 lead after five minutes of action. After leading 20-10 at the 12-minute media timeout, the Quakers were held scoreless for over six minutes of action which allowed a 12-0 run by the Lions. Trailing 33-25 with just under two minutes remaining in the half, Earlham strung together a 5-0 run heading into the break. Earlham had possession with 28 seconds left, but missed a 3-pointer as time expired.
MSJ opened up a 42-32 lead at the 16:20 mark of the second half, before a 6-0 run by the Quakers. A layup by Davis brought the Quakers within three points of the Lions with 6:41 remaining, but the visitors responded with a 3-pointer. Trailing 59-53, Earlham went on a 5-0 run to trail by one with under three minutes left. MSJ hit a layup with 1:48 remaining, and
Tommy Reddick caused a turnover that resulted in one point for EC. The Lions then hit one free throw with 15 seconds left, and won off of a missed 3-pointer for the Quakers at the buzzer.
The Quakers will be back in action on Wednesday evening at home against Berea College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
