Shelton homers in Quaker Bowl loss

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Earlham College softball team dropped a pair of games on Tuesday evening at Wilmington College. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 7 WILMINGTON 12

Tatum Rickert started game one in the circle, and threw four innings with three strikeouts and three earned runs. Kamdyn DePew threw the last two innings.

Mack Harvey went 3-3 in game one with one run and two RBI. Bo Shelton scored three hits with a double, a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. 

Wilmington took the lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. 

The Quakers responded with three runs on three hits following a leadoff single by Harvey in the top of the second inning. Shelton then hit a leadoff homer in the top of the third inning, and Earlham plated another run on a throwing error for a 5-0 lead. 

Wilmington scored four runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth inning to retake the lead 6-5. The hosts then scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

Trailing 12-5, Jade Green started a two-run sixth inning with a two-out single up the middle. After three straight hits to load the bases, Harvey hit a two-run single up the middle.

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 1 WILMINGTON 4

Shelby Messer started game two and threw 5.2 innings with four earned runs and seven strikeouts. Mikala Newland recorded her first collegiate action in the circle, and faced two batters with one strikeout. 

Shelby Hill went 2-3 in game two. Ashley Lewis scored one hit, and one RBI.

Wilmington took the lead on a two-out double in the bottom of the second inning, and added a second run on a two-out rally in the third. 

Trailing 2-0, Michaela King led off the top of the fifth inning with a single, and scored on a two-out single by Lewis. 

Wilmington added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. 

The Quakers host Centre College on Thursday afternoon in Ellie Bewley Stadium.
