Softball drops two to Transy

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team dropped a pair of games against Transylvania University on Wednesday afternoon in Ellie Bewley Stadium. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 4 TRANSYLVANIA 14

Shelby Messer tossed 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts in the start. Mikala Newland closed out the final two outs with one hit allowed. 

Emmerie Stump led the Quakers at the plate with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. Macie Ferguson also scored a pair of hits with one run and one RBI. 

After the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, the Quakers put together a four-run third inning. Malaya Tanglao led off the frame with a double to right field, and advanced on a single by Newland. Ferguson laid down a bunt for a hit to bring in the first Quaker run, and Stump brought home two runs with her second double of the day. Bo Shelton then doubled to bring Stump home for a 4-2 Quaker lead. 

Transy plated three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning, and six runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 3 TRANSYLVANIA 5

Kamdyn DePew threw three innings with four earned runs. Jade Green made her first career pitching appearance for the Quakers with four innings and one hit. 

Mack Harvey led the Quakers with three hits, one double and a run scored. 

After a leadoff single by Ferguson, Earlham plated three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. 

The Pioneers tied the game with three scores in the top of the second, and one run each in the third and fourth innings. 

Earlham is slated to host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for a doubleheader in Ellie Bewley Stadium on Saturday at 1 pm.
