Game Recap: Softball |

Softball wins in five innings, will play for HCAC Championship on Sunday

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team scored 10 runs for a five-inning win over Transylvania University in the HCAC Tournament. The Quakers now advance to the HCAC Championship series on Sunday at Kokomo High School.

Morgan Cooksey tossed a one-hitter, allowing only one baserunner with two strikeouts.

The heart of the Quaker lineup tallied six hits on the day. Shelby Hill went 2-3 with a double and three runs scored. Emmerie Stump hit a home run, and went 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Jade Green tallied two hits with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

After going down in order in the top of the first, Hill and Stump led off the second inning with a pair of walks. Green plated the first run of the day with an RBI-single up the middle, and Malaya Tanglao hit an RBI-single for a 2-0 lead. After a sac bunt by Cierra James, Mack Harvey hit a two-run single to give the Quakers an early 4-0 lead, and chase away the Pioneer starter.

Hill led off the top of the third inning with a double to set up a two-run homer for Stump to right-center field. The Quakers put three runners on base in the frame, but came away with just the two runs.

Transylvania's only baserunner of the game came in the bottom of the third inning with a one-out single.

Hill was the first baserunner in the top of the fourth with a one-out single. After a hit by Stump, Green plated Hill with an RBI-double. Ashley Lewis then brought two more runs home with a double to the right-field fence. Lewis scored the final run of the game on a single by James.

The Quakers will take on Transylvania again tomorrow at 11 am in the HCAC Championship series at Kokomo High School. As the only unbeaten team remaining in the tournament, the Quakers will have two chances to get a win over the Pioneers on Sunday to win the conference championship.
