Annemarie Chin returns to the bench for her fourth season as Earlham's assistant volleyball coach, after joining the program prior to the 2019 season. Over Chin's first three seasons on the Earlham bench she has helped lead the Quakers to a 51-21 overall mark, 20-7 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a conference regular season title.

Eight Earlham players have earned First Team All-HCAC honors over the past three seasons with Chin on the coaching staff, with the Quakers garnering a total of 13 all-conference awards overall during that span.

“Annemarie was an intuitive player and coaches similarly. I am certain the girls will respond very well to that style of coaching,” said Lauren Horton, Earlham’s head volleyball coach, at the time of Chin's hiring. “She also has a defensive philosophy that will hopefully fill our gaps and frustrate our opponents. I'm honored to be working with her!”

Chin served as an assistant coach at Leon High School in Tallahassee, Fla., for three seasons from 2016 to 2018, helping the Lions reach the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 6A “final four” in 2016 and 2018, and finishing as the state runner-up in 2017. She also played at Leon High School, leading her team to its only state championship when it won the 6A title in 2011.

Chin was a four-year starter at libero at High Point University (NCAA Division I), earning multiple all-conference honors and making her way into the HPU record book along the way. She was a Second Team All-Big South and Big South All-Freshman Team honors in 2012 as a rookie, after recording 438 digs (3.68 per set) to finish seventh among Big South Conference (BSC) leaders. Chin tallied 628 digs (5.41 per set) in her sophomore campaign and was fourth among Big South digs leaders. She capped her collegiate career with a conference-best 662 digs (5.61 per set) in 2015 as a senior, second-highest single-season digs tally in High Point’s Division I era, and was a First Team All-Big South selection. Chin finished her senior season ranked ninth among Division I leaders in digs per set, leading a High Point squad that was ranked eighth nationally in the category.

Over her four years at High Point, Chin amassed 1,888 career digs – second among HPU’s all-time leaders. She is a 2016 graduate of High Point with a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design and digital imaging.

“I am inspired by the work ethic that student-athletics have to offer at Earlham,” said Chin. “It is all about helping build relationships, support the inner and outer growth, and help them become what they are capable of. It is about raising the level of play and mindset on and off the court. Holding them accountable and letting them know that they have the responsibility in what they create for themselves as individuals, and as a great teammate. I cannot wait to get started on this season and push this program with Lauren to its absolute fullest potential.”

Chin also serves as Earlham's chief branding officer, a position she was named to in May 2021, with responsibility for creating and directing the department's marketing efforts and managing our brand identity.
