Bluffton Defeats Quakers 79-75

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. The Earlham College women's basketball team played on the road for the first time on Tuesday as the Quakers fell 79-75 to Bluffton University.

Nikki Darrett led the Quakers with 17 points. Katy Buda added 12 points, while Michelle Miranda tossed in 11 points. Princess Darnell finished with 10 points.

Darrett and Starr Gary topped the Quakers with five rebounds each. Jayana Sims led the squad with five assists.

The Quakers jumped out to an early 11-3 lead when Buda drilled a 3-pointer at the 16:52 mark of the opening period. Later in the half, the Quakers would hold a 10-point advantage three times with the last coming when Darrett hit a 3-pointer to make it 25-15 with 9:34 left.

The Beavers (3-1) battled back to tie the contest at 34-34 with 1:49 remaining in the first half. Earlham responded with a 4-1 run the rest of the way to hold a 38-35 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Earlham led early, but Bluffton went in front for good 41-40 with 18:24 left. From that point, the Beavers worked their way to a 62-49 lead with 7:58 remaining in the game. The Quakers were able to fight back but could get no closer than three points at 78-75 with five seconds left to play.

Earlham (1-2) returns home to entertain Oberlin College on Saturday, Dec. 5. The North Coast Athletic Conference opener for the Quakers on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center gets underway at 1 p.m.
