Quakers Split Matches at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio After dropping the first match of day, the Earlham College women's tennis team came back on Saturday to pick up a win over Defiance College.

Rose-Hulman defeated Earlham 8-1, while the Quakers blanked Yellow Jackets 9-0.

In the sweep of Defiance, Rachel Hawkins defeated Chelsea French 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Rebecca Ogle beat Jenika Hennes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.

At No. 3, Nora Mineva won 6-0, 6-0 over Nicole Lovins, while Alex Softness defeated Kellie Raypole at No. 4 by the same score.

Julia Berner-Tobin won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Bailey Hall won by default at No. 6

In doubles, Softness and Mineva won 8-2 over Hennes and Lovins at No. 1. Hawkins and Ogle won 8-0 over French and Katie Carunchia at No. 2. Hall and Berner-Tobin won by default at No. 3.

Against Rose-Hulman, Ogle posted a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (9-7) win over Kelsey Sackett at No. 2 singles.

The next dual match for the Quakers is Wednesday at home against Manchester College. The non-conference match is at 4 p.m.
