WOOSTER, Ohio — The
Earlham College women's basketball team had three players in double figures on Saturday as the Quakers fell to the
College of Wooster 67-57 in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.
Nikki Darrett led the Quakers with 17 points, while
Michelle Miranda and
Katy Buda added 12 points each. Darrett and Miranda pulled down six rebounds apiece.
Kate Franks topped Earlham with seven rebounds and
Jayana Sims led the squad with four assists.
The Quakers jumped out to an early 9-0 when Sims scored a basket at 17:47. The Scots (6-10, 3-4) were able to bounce back to tie the contest at 12-12 with 9:29 left in the opening period
Wooster scored the next eight points and the Scots eventually led 27-22 at intermission.
At the start of the second half, Darrett hit a 3-pointer to close the gap to 27-25 at the 19:37 mark.
Wooster followed with an 8-0 run that was stopped by a 3-pointer by Miranda to make it 35-28 at 18:01.
The Scots had another big run of a dozen straight points to take a 47-28 advantage before
Charvonne Long ended the stretch with a basket for the Quakers to make it 47-30 with 13:42 remaining in the contest.
Later in the half, Miranda hit a basket and free throw at 4:18 to close the gap for Earlham to make it 61-52, but the Quakers couldn't get any closer.
Earlham (2-13, 1-5) is at
Denison University on Wednesday. The NCAC contest begins at 6 p.m.
