RICHMOND, Ind. — The
Earlham College women's basketball team had four players reach double figures Friday night as the Quakers defeated
Allegheny College 75-69 in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on
Schuckman Court in the Athletics and
Wellness Center.
Nikki Darrett led the Quakers with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Charvonne Long and
Michelle Miranda contributed 13 points each, while
Starr Gary added 11 points. Like Darrett,
Jayana Sims finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
The Quakers started the game with a 4-0 lead, but the Gators (5-8, 2-2) rallied to go on top 10-4 at the 15:01 mark.
Earlham bounced back to tie the game at 16-16 when
Whitney Sparkman scored with 8:22 left. The Quakers went on to score the next seven points capped by Darrett's 3-pointer that gave them a 23-16 advantage with 5:47 remaining.
The Quakers were able to hold on and lead 33-29 at halftime.
In the second half, Earlham stayed in front until the Gators tied the contest at 42-42 with 14:41 left in the game.
The two squads were tied again at 53-53 at the 8:36 mark before the Quakers went on a 9-0 run to lead 62-53 when Darrett hit a 3-pointer with 5:24 remaining. Earlham was able to lead the rest of the way to post the victory.
Earlham (2-10, 1-3) is back in action at home on Saturday against
Hiram College. The NCAC match up gets underway at 2 p.m.
