CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team wrapped up its weekend in the Little Giant Tip-off Classic at Wabash College with a 67-51 loss on Saturday to against DePauw University.
Ryan Taylor (Martinsville, IN, Martinsville) topped the Quakers with 16 points, while
Marcus Bledsoe (Indianapolis, IN, Ritter) and
Josh Green (Campbellsburg, IN, West Washington) added eight points and five rebounds each. Green also had three steals.
Dustin Rusk (Frankfort, IN, Clinton Prairie) finished with seven points and
Justin Barger (Ellettsville, IN, Edgewood) tossed in five points with five rebounds.
Marty Broderick (Mooresville, IN, Mooresville) had five assists.
Bledsoe scored the first basket of the contest for the Quakers, but DePauw responded with four points to take the lead with 17:49 left in the opening half.
The Tigers (2-0) widened their margin before Taylor scored to close the gap to 12-7 with 15:00 remaining. From that point, DePauw gradually pulled away to build a 37-19 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Quakers were able to battle their way back into the game as Green drilled a 3-pointer to make it 40-33 with 14:53 left in the contest. Unfortunately for the Quakers, the Tigers scored a dozen straight to go in front 52-33 with 10:43 on the clock. DePauw was able to maintain that margin the rest of the way.
Earlham (0-3) faces Oberlin College in its home opener next Saturday. The non-conference affair on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
