EC Plays Case Western in Radisson Classic

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A big run late in the first half was the difference on Saturday as the Earlham College fell 80-48 to Case Western University in the Radisson Classic at Carnegie Mellon University.

Case Western (3-0) started the contest with 16-6 advantage, but the Quakers were able to respond to cut the deficit to 16-10 when Danielle Altman (Carthage, IN, Knightstown) hit a pair of free throws with 12:35 left in the opening period.

Later in the half, Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) scored to make it 27-18 at the 6:31 mark. From that point, Case Western put together a 13-2 run to lead 40-20 at intermission.

In the second half, the Quakers scored the first five points as part of a 7-2 run to close the gap to 42-27 with 16:19 remaining in the game. However, Case Western bounced back by scoring the next 14 points of the contest to take a 56-27 lead at 11:59.

A basket by Kate Franks (Hopewell, OH, West Muskingum ) ended the run at 10:56, but the Quakers couldn't get any closer.

Christyan Cooksey (Evansville, IN, Bosse) led the Quakers with 12 points, while Altman tossed in 10 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Franks finished with seven points and Natasha Norman (St. Louis, MO, Vashon) added six points. Nikki Darrett (Evansville, IN, Bosse), who was named to the all-tournament team, pulled down five rebounds.

The Quakers (0-3) return to action on Tuesday against St. Mary-of-the-Woods College at 7 p.m. The non-conference contest is at the community center in Clinton, Ind.
