RICHMOND, Ind. — A late run by Anderson University proved to be the difference as the Ravens defeated the Earlham College women's basketball team 65-48 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Christyan Cooksey (Evansville, IN, Bosse) and
Nikki Darrett (Evansville, IN, Bosse) led the Quakers with 10 points each with Darrett grabbing a team-high five rebounds.
Danielle Altman (Carthage, IN, Knightstown) and
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) added seven points apiece, while Altman pulled down four rebounds. Sneed had three rebounds.
Earlham began the affair with an early advantage. After a basket by
Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) at the 15:18 mark of the opening stanza, the Quakers led 10-7.
A 3-pointer by Anderson's Ellen Thompson gave the Ravens a 12-10 lead with 14:00 left in the first half.
From that point, Anderson was able to build a 20-13 lead, but the Quakers rallied to close the gap when
Desire Hough (Bethlehem, PA, Saucon Valley) scored to make it 20-19 at the 8:50 mark.
The Ravens (4-4, 2-2) finished the half with a 15-5 run to go on top 35-24 at halftime.
After the intermission, Cooksey was fouled on a 3-point attempt and she made all three free throws to cut the deficit to 35-27 with 18:51 left to play, but Anderson worked its way to a double-digit advantage from that point.
Darrett's 3-pointer with 9:30 remaining made it 44-37 and the Quakers were not able to get any closer.
The Quakers (0-9, 0-4) are off until Tuesday, Dec. 21. Earlham entertains non-conference foe St. Mary-of-the-Woods College that night at 7:30 p.m.
