Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team dropped a 75-55 decision to Franklin College Saturday afternoon on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

"We're showing signs of improvement," Earlham Head Coach Liana Coutts said. "We're still having problems with consistency."

"There were times that we have five first-years on the floor," Coutts added. "Our goal is the get better every day."

Nikki Darrett (Evansville, IN, Bosse) and Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) led the Quakers with 12 points each in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest, while Desire Hough (Bethlehem, PA, Saucon Valley) topped the squad with eight rebounds. Darrett finished with six rebounds.

Princess Darnell (Greenwood, IN, Bishop Chatard) and Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) tossed in seven points each with Christyan Cooksey (Evansville, IN, Bosse) contributing six points.

Earlham jumped out to a quick lead with a 3-pointer by Darnell and another by Darrett put the Quakers on top 6-2 at the 18:08 mark of the opening period.

After Franklin responded to grab a 7-6 advantage, Long scored to give the Quakers an 8-7 lead with 15:59 left in the first half.

The score was later tied 10-10 before the Quakers put together a run to go on top 16-12 when Long scored and then hit a free throw at 12:21.

Sneed gave the Quakers what turned out to be their final lead of the contest with a basket at 11:02 to make it 18-17.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Franklin (4-2, 1-1) scored the next nine points to build a 26-19 with 7:58 remaining. The run gave the Grizzlies a 37-26 edge by intermission.

Franklin started the second half with a pair of 3-pointers to lead 43-26 before the Quakers got a lay-up from Darnell and a trey from Cooksey. Cookey's 3-pointer made it 45-33 with 16:24 remaining in the contest, but the Quakers couldn't get any closer.

Earlham (0-7, 0-2) visits the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday. The HCAC contest begins at 7:30 p.m.
