RICHMOND, Ind. — The
Earlham College women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday as the Quakers came up one shot short in a 72-69 loss to the
College of Wooster on
Schuckman Court.
Trailing by three points with 12 seconds to go in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest, the Quakers missed a 3-pointer as time ran out.
Michelle Miranda led the Quakers with 12 points, while
Nikki Darrett added 11 points.
Whitney Sparkman tossed in 10 points.
Princess Darnell finished with nine points and
Jessica Wooden contributed eight points.
Wooden led the Quakers with six assists, while she and Darrett along with
Charvonne Long topped the squad with five rebounds apiece. Long also had six points.
In their final contests for Earlham,
Katy Buda finished with six points, while
Jayana Sims had two assists.
Earlham jumped out to an early 13-5 advantage after Darrett scored with 12:14 left in the opening period. The Quakers widened the gap to 33-20 when Sparkman scored a basket and converted a free throw for a 3-point play with 3:58 remaining.
Wooster (11-14, 8-8) was able to trim the lead to 37-29 by intermission.
In the second half, the Scots eventually tied the contest at 42-42 at the 13:26 mark. Just 10 seconds later,
Wooster was able to go on top 44-42.
The Scots were able to build a 68-57 lead with 3:39 left, but the Quakers responded with 11 straight points. The rally was capped by a basket from Long to make it 68-68 with 1:36 on the clock.
Darnell gave the Quakers a 69-68 lead with 59 seconds remaining when she hit 1-of-2 free throws. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Wooster scored the final four points of the contest.
The Quakers end the season at 3-22 overall and 2-14 in the NCAC.
