Quakers Earn Non-Conference Victory

RICHMOND, Ind.A sweep in doubles provided the Earlham College women's tennis team a boost Thursday as the Quakers defeated Capital University 8-1 in non-conference action on the EC Courts.

Rachel Hawkins and Alex Softness defeated Kristen Foss and Michelle Guy 8-3 at No. 1. Julia Berner-Tobin and Morgan Springer combined to beat Melanie DeArdo and Meredith Wedell 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2.

At No. 3, Cory Mathieu and Kirsten Schrader won 8-1 over Audrey Craig and Corinne Mink.

Earlham won five of the six matches in singles.

Hawkins won 6-0, 6-0 over Guy at No. 1, while Softness beat Foss 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2.

At No. 4, Bailey Hall picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Wedell. Berner-Tobin posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Craig at No. 5. Schrader won 6-0, 6-0 over Mink at No. 6.

Earlham (5-3) is at Wittenberg University on Tuesday. The North Coast Athletic Conference match gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
