RICHMOND, Ind. — The
Earlham College women's tennis team opened the season on Saturday with a pair of losses at home.
Hanover College defeated the Quakers 5-4 in the first official Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference event for Earlham. HCAC favorite
Transylvania University beat the Quakers 6-0.
Earlham had three wins in singles and one in doubles against
Hanover.
Olivia Engle defeated Mandy Learned 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, while
Alex Softness picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Heather Washburn at No. 4.
Bailey Hall beat Katie McKinley 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 6.
At No. 2 doubles, Engle and
Rebecca Ogle teamed up to beat Kim Fong and Paige Spalding 8-0.
Earlham (0-2, 0-2) faces Indiana University East at
Glen Miller Park on Thursday. The match gets underway at 4 p.m.
