Quakers Play on the Road at Defiance

Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Earlham College women's basketball team had four players in double figures on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Quakers fell to Defiance College 100-83 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.

Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) led the Quakers with 20 points, nine assists and seven steals.

Nikki Darrett (Evansville, IN, Bosse) and Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) finished with 18 points each, while Desire Hough (Bethlehem, PA, Saucon Valley) tossed in 12 points. Darrett ended the night with a double-double as she pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Kate Franks (Hopewell, OH, West Muskingum ) contributed nine points and 10 rebounds.

Earlham got off to a slow start as the Quakers got behind 21-5 with 14:24 left in the opening period. Eventually, the Quakers worked the deficit down to six points twice in the first half with the last coming at the 6:47 mark when Hough scored to make it 32-26.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, that was as close as they could get as they trailed 56-38 at intermission.

In the second half, Earlham was able to rally and get the margin down to eight points after Sneed hit 1-of-2 free throws to make it 87-79 with 5:29 remaining in the contest. The Yellow Jackets (6-8, 4-3) finished the game off with a 13-4 run.

The Quakers (0-14, 0-7) travel to Bluffton University on Saturday. The HCAC affair gets underway at 1 p.m.
