Sneed Scores 30 Points as EC Drops Game at Transy

Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bria Sneed scored a career-high 30 points on Wednesday for the Earlham College women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as the Quakers fell 86-69 at Transylvania University.

Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) tied an Earlham record with six 3-pointers in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. The first-year guard was 11-of-21 from the floor and 6-of-9 behind the 3-point line, while making both of her free throw attempts.

Earlham Athletics Hall of Fame member Shannon Ferguson hit six treys in a contest two times in her career with the last effort coming against the College of Wooster on Feb. 8, 1992.

The 30 points is the most by an Earlham women's player in a game since Samantha Lurie had 29 points against Kalamazoo College on Dec. 17, 2007. The last Earlham woman to reach 30 points was Lindsey Chappell, who had 34 points in a 67-64 win over Denison University on Jan. 22, 2003.

The Quakers fell behind early in the contest trailing 15-7 with 15:13 left in the opening period. Earlham rallied and when Sneed hit a 3-pointer at the 14:05 mark, the Quakers were down 17-12.

At that point, Transylvania (18-6, 13-4) scored the next 10 points to go on top 27-12 with 11:24 remaining. But again the Quakers fought back and it was Sneed who got them closer with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 35-33 at 5:31.

When Christyan Cooksey (Evansville, IN, Bosse) drilled a 3-pointer, the Quakers were again to within two at 41-39 with 3:10 left.

Unfortunately for Earlham, the Pioneers ended the half with a 9-2 run to lead 50-41 at intermission.

In the second half, Princess Darnell (Greenwood, IN, Bishop Chatard) hit a 3-pointer to make it 52-49 at the 18:30 mark. From that moment, Transylvania was able to work its way to a double-digit advantage and the Quakers couldn't get any closer.

To go with her scoring effort, Sneed added four assists. Cooksey finished with eight points, Darnell, Desire Hough (Bethlehem, PA, Saucon Valley) and Natasha Norman (St. Louis, MO, Vashon) contributed five points each.

The Quakers (0-24, 0-17) end their season on Saturday with a conference contest against Bluffton University. The game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center begins at 1 p.m.
