RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team jumped out to an early advantage on Thursday, but couldn't hold on as the Quakers fell 62-50 to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) gave the Quakers a 9-2 lead when she scored at 14:58 of the opening stanza in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Later in the period,
Princess Darnell (Greenwood, IN, Bishop Chatard) hit a 3-pointer to make it 21-14 with 7:42 left.
Darnell eventually gave the Quakers their largest lead of the night at 26-16 with a basket at 4:55.
The Quakers led 30-23 by intermission.
In the second half, Rose-Hulman was able to make a run to tie the contest 33-33 at the 16:28 mark. The Engineers (7-13, 5-8) took their first lead of the night when it was 35-33 at 15:55.
Desire Hough (Bethlehem, PA, Saucon Valley) helped the Quakers bounce back as she hit a pair of free throws to tie the affair at 44-44 with 9:30 remaining in the contest.
Unfortunately for Earlham, Rose-Hulman finished the contest by out scoring the Quakers 18-6 after Hough's free throws.
Sneed led the Quakers with 17 points and five assists. Darnell added 10 points with a team-high four steals.
Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) tossed in eight points.
Christyan Cooksey (Evansville, IN, Bosse) scored seven points, while Hough grabbed five rebounds to lead the Quakers.
Earlham (0-20, 0-13) is back in action at home on Saturday against the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The HCAC game begins at 1 p.m.
