RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team faced the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday as the Quakers dropped the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game 59-53 to the Lions on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) led the Quakers with 18 points, three assists and three steals.
Christyan Cooksey (Evansville, IN, Bosse) tossed in eight points, while
Karmell Brown (Columbus, OH, Columbus School for Girls) added seven points to go with her team high six rebounds.
The Quakers fell behind early eventually trailing 19-9 at the 8:06 mark and 21-10 with 6:40 left in the opening period.
Earlham responded with a run that ended with Cooksey scoring with 31 seconds remaining to make it 28-26 before the Lions finished the half with a 3-pointer to lead 31-26 at intermission.
In the second half, Mount St. Joseph scored the first six points to take a 37-26 lead with 16:04 left to play. The Lions widened the gap to 46-31 just before the Quakers scored a dozen straight to close the gap to 46-43 with 7:38 remaining.
That was as close as Earlham would get as the Lions were able to hold off the Quakers the rest of the way.
The Quakers (0-21, 0-14) entertain Defiance College on Wednesday. The HCAC contest begins at 7:30 p.m.
